The colourful restored Spanish buildings line the streets of Old Town, with areas of immense poverty and round the corner, areas of extreme wealth. Colon, Panama
Colon is the Caribbean entrance to the Panama, where you can marvel on the engineering feats of the Gatun locks, or take a relaxing dip in the un-spoilt Gatun Lake. In nearby Portobello you can discover the ruins of the Spanish forts, watch the colorful yachts sailing in the bay or hunt for treasures in the local markets.

Puerto Caldera (Puntarenas), Costa Rica
It's hard to throw a stick in Costa Rica and not have it hit a national park. The city of Puerto Caldera, on Costa Rica's Pacific coast, has a number of them within easy reach for visitors. Just to the south, Carara is a mecca for birders, Poas Volcano is inland, and rises to nearly 9,000 feet. See it before it blows again.

San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua

San Juan Del Sur is a charming small fishing town on the edge of white sandy beaches, with spectacular views over the mountains and forests. This town offers an abundance of character seen through the thatched roofed cafes and bars along the beach front. There are easily accessible trips to the cultural city of Granada or the stunning Lake Nicaragua.

Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala

This attractive port is home to a local craft market and vendor stalls. Venture a bit further afield and take a tour of a coffee plantation to learn where your morning drink comes from, or explore some beautiful ancient Mayan ruins.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico’s liveliest cities, and offers golden beaches and sparkling seas. If you’re feeling more adventurous you can go hiking and mountain biking in the hills, explore the jungle on horseback, go snorkelling and scuba diving, or take a jeep safari. With a lively nightlife too, you won’t be short of things to do.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

It’s a desert, a beach, blue surf and big fish along the southern tip of Baja California. Cruise visitors will find that Cabo is exquisite, the shopping divine, and the beaches all shine. Lover's Beach is a great place to see the arch at Land's End, and this is one of the best places on earth to swim with dolphins at their world renowned dolphin centre.

Los Angeles is a culturally vibrant city. Although most famous for its district of Hollywood, the city also boasts over 800 museums and galleries.
