Discover the never-ending charm of Spain and Portugal in this 11 night tour with stays in four incredible Iberian cities. From the buzz of the main cities to the picturesque villages and a glimpse at the famous beach towns, immerse yourself in the vibrant flavours this tour has to offer.
Kick off your Iberian adventure of a lifetime by flying to Barcelona for a three night stay. It’s a captivating seaside city with immense culture, famed architecture and a first class Catalan restaurant scene. Its architecture is a melting pot, where 13th century Gothic spikes effortlessly blends with the modern curves of buildings designed by Barcelona’s most famous architect, Gaudi. The old city is the heart of everything, with museums, shopping and cafes and Gothic Quarter. Don't miss a stroll along Las Ramblas, awash with produce and flower stands, a historic opera house and maybe stop to rest your feet over a few plates of tapas and a jug of Sangria.
Travel north via train – Spain’s rail network’s high speed AVE trains are extremely efficient – to the beguiling Madrid, the Cultural and financial hub of Spain, where people really know how to embrace the laid back café culture and enjoy life to the full. Art lovers are really spoilt with choice with masterpieces by Picasso, Dali and Goya adorning the walls of the top galleries. Compared to most of the rest of Western Europe, Madrid is a bargain. The attractions mostly have very reasonable price tags and some of the museums are free. The city offers some delectable tapas and meat lovers should take note that the premium steaks cooked on wood stoves here are among the best in the world. Locals often only start their dinner and drinks late and the night really comes to life after midnight.
Then visit the age-old coastal city of Porto, known for its famous port wine, imposing bridges and the sumptuous 19th-century Palácio de Bolsa (Stock Exchange Palace). Visit the UNESCO-listed medieval old town in Ribeira, enjoy the vistas via the several lookout points, do a port tasting and discover the divine fresh seafood while chatting to charismatic locals at family-run taverns.
Lastly, to Lisbon, a postcard-perfect blend of sun-bleached buildings topped with terracotta roofs, steep cobblestone streets and picturesque beaches. Set across seven hills, Lisbon is easy to explore in a couple of days thanks to a network of traditional trams. During your stay you could take in the view of the city from the São Jorge Castle, eat grilled sardines in the sun, take a tram to explore the Belém district, or simply relax on one of the numerous sandy beaches – this beautiful city offers a plethora of wonderful experiences to enjoy.
